S/04: 10 Days Birding trek Lava & Neora National Park
Featuring Mahananda WLS, Lava Forests & Neora National Park
Maximum altitude: 3000 m

Day 01: Fly to Bagdogra. Transfer to Siliguri
Arrive by air from Delhi, Kolkotta, or Guwahati. Met by your guide and transffered to hotel at Siliguri. Time permitting take a short drive to Mahananda Wild Life Sanctuary for birding. Overnight at hotel

Day 02: Siliguri-Mahananda WLS - Siliguri

Full days birding at Mahananda WLS. Overnight in hotel at Siliguri. Located just outside Siliguri astride the Mahananda river, this sanctuary is well known for its large population of Elephants. As a result it has not yet been explored by birders. T he deciduous forests and riverine belt provides habitat for a rich variety of birds in the sanctuary, A hours birding foray restricted to the fringes of the sanctuary, revealed that the forests were teeming with bird life. Some of the birds we saw: Lesser Adjutant, Red Naped Ibis, Black Baza, Besra, Greater Coucal, Large Cuckoo Shrike, Black hooded Oriole, Indian roller, Green billed Malkhoa, Red Jungle Fowl, Indian Grey Hornbill,  Himalayan Griffon, Jungle and Asian Barred owlet, various Bee eaters, Egret, Common Hill Myna. We are sure to see many more species.

Day 03: Siliguri- Mahananda Wild Life Sanctuary- Kalimpong
Full days birding in a different section of the  Mahananda WLS. In the evening a 02 hrs drive to Kalimpong for overnight at Gurudongma House.

Day 04: Drive Kalimpong – Lava, 2100 m – Birding walk in Khampung Reserve Forests

Rise early to drive towards Lava for 25 Kms. Birding walk through Khampung Reserve Forest. We will walk along a road, and forest trails, through evergreen mixed forests. Be prepared for off track birding and some climbing up to elevation of 2300 m. Overnight at Forest Camp.

Day 0 5: Birding walk Lava - Khampung Reserve forests and Git Valley

Starting from the Git Valley we trek along several forest trails exploring ravines and stream beds through the Khampung Forests. Return to camp in the evening for overnight.

Day 0 6: Drive Lava - entrance of Neora National Park -. Birding Trek Neora Valley
Today we drive up a steep jeep track to Zero Point at the entrance to the Neora National Park, climbing to 2400 m, to start our birding trek through the Neora River Valley. Descending into the Neora Valley, through bio-diverse sub Himalayan forests and flora, we will bird along the Neora Valley the whole day up to the head of the valley to our Neora camp at 1700 m. fpr overnight stay.

Day 07: Birding walk in Neora National Park
Full day to explore selected trails in the Neora National Park, up to an altitude of 3000 m.. Overnight at Neora Camp.

Day 08: Birding Trek Rushet Reserve forest
We will trek back  out of the Neora Valley by a different trail crossing the main ridge line through Hill 2440 m for birding along forest trails in the Rushet Reserve Forest. Overnight at Rushet camp.

Day 0 9: Birding trek through Rushet Reserve forest
Full day birding walk through Rushet Reserve forest. In the evening drive to Kalimpong for overnight at Gurudongma House.

Day 10: Kalimpong - Bagdogra
After breakfast transfer to Bagdogra for departure. TOUR ENDS

NOTE: Bird sightings depend greatly on season, timing, and patience. Sightings mentioned in the itinerary are only a guide and can not be guaranteed.
